Dubai's new 2040 Urban Master Plan: An Opportunity for UAE-Israel Greentech Cooperation
Yesterday, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. The plan details a future map for sustainable development in the Emirate. Reflecting his visionary goal of transforming Dubai into the world’s best city to live in, the plan includes goals such as increasing green areas by 105%, developing two new major urban centers, increasing space for hospitality and tourism activities by 134%, and growing the total land dedicated to economic activities to 168 km. While Dubai is poised for continued accelerated development (the number of residents is expected to increase from 3.3 million to 5.8 million), such growth naturally brings with it #environmental and #sustainability challenges. This growth takes place within the context of the UAE and Dubai’s strategic roadmaps for sustainable development, such as the UAE Vision 2021 and UAE Centennial 2071. As a result, the integration of cutting-edge green technologies will become even more important. The Abraham Accords have opened the door to new and exciting avenues of cooperation between #Israel and the #UAE, including in the field of innovative #greentechnology. Israel is recognized as a world-leader in the field of greentech. By combining their expertise and capabilities, Israel and the UAE can provide a global model for using technology to advance sustainable high-growth economic development. Image Credit
